Windshield Chip Repair
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
There are two types of auto glass: OEM glass (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and OEE (Original Equipment Equivalent) or what many people refer to as aftermarket glass.
OEE or Original Equipment Equivalent Windshields are windshields that are manufactured by the same companies that make OEM windshields, but the logo on the glass is that of the glass manufacturer not the auto maker.
So instead of the small stamp that says Honda, it would say PGW, FYG or another manufacturer. These windshields are made to the same requirements and standards as the OEM glass and often in the same factories but donât carry the high premium price tag.
Whether you purchase OEM or OEE glass, we give you a lifetime warranty against stress cracks and air or water leaks.
You can tell if your windshield is OEM by the stamp that will be on the bottom corner of glass. If it is OEM, the manufacturer will be the brand name of the vehicle. For example, an OEM Honda would display âHonda.â
The cost depends on the size of the chip/crack. Anything up to 6 inches(size of dollar bill) can typically be sealed. The cost ranges from $45-$65. In addition, if you have full coverage insurance, it covers chip repair at no cost, up to 6 times per year.
If you have AAA roadside assistance, they reimburse you for chip repairs up to $50 per year.
Fuyao (FYG) is the worldâs leading OEM auto glass manufacturer. In fact, Fuyao currently holds 25% share of the global automotive glass market, with sales of approximate 210 million units per year, and OEM representing about 85%.
Safelite no longer manufacturers glass. They purchase their glass from the same manufacturers and warehouses we do.
The dots are pieces of black enamel outside the windshield used to block the heat generated from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. This prevents the adhesive (urethane) from melting, holding your windshield securely in place.
Also, the black dots, or âdot matrixâ helps distribute temperature evenly. The frit band are baked edges that strengthens the outer edges of the glass. This is where the weight is held from the windshield. The black outer edge is stronger than the rest of the windshield.
Lastly, the black dots are used for aesthetic purposes. It conceals the urethane, giving it a polished look.
